Aisha, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has asked Muslims to imbibe the lessons of Eid-el-kabir.

Eid-el-kabir, which means “feast of sacrifice”, is an Islamic festival involving the killing of rams to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ismail — but a lamb was used for the sacrifice.

The celebration is coming 68 days after Muslims ended the 30-day fasting during the month of Ramadan.

In a series of tweet on Friday, Aisha shared photos of herself and her family observing Sallah at Aso Rock.

She called on Muslims to remain resolute in ensuring COVID-19 is controlled.

Aisha also asked Nigerians to utilise the financial support provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to cushion the economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“On this occasion of Eid el Adha, which signifies the spirit of sacrifice, I wish to congratulate Nigerian muslims and charge them to imbibe the lessons of the period,” the tweet read.

“I wish to use this opportunity to thank Nigerians for respecting the protocols designed for COVID19, and to call on them to remain resolute in ensuring that the pandemic is controlled. I also call on Nigerians to make best use of the financial support being provided through CBN to boost their businesses in order to cushion the effects of COVID.

“It is my ardent prayer that we overcome the pandemic as soon as possible so that we return to our normal lives in earnest.”
